Cross River State governor, Senator Ben Ayade’s Special Assistant on Media and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, yesterday, disowned a cloned Facebook account purporting to be that of the governor.
Dissociating Governor Ayade from the cloned Facebook account, which is currently being used by tricksters to swindle unsuspecting members of the public of their money for job placements, Mr. Ita, in a statement said: “The attention of the governor has been drawn to a Facebook account purporting to be his (Ayade). The said Facebook account is currently being used by swindlers to con unsuspecting members of the public of their money for job offers.”
According to the governor’s spokesman, “This is purely the handiwork of fraudsters and desperadoes who are taking advantage of the job opportunities being created by Governor Ayade through the setting up of the garment factory and the state’s Green Police to scam undiscerning members of the public of their hard-earned money in the guise of offering them jobs.”
While warning the general public to be wary of these criminal elements, Ita cautioned: “Given the antecedent of the governor, he has been known over the years to provide succor to the needy and the less privileged in the society through his various charity platforms. He is not one to ask anybody to part with money for favours. If he has not done this in his private capacity, he cannot now do that as a public officer.”
Ita, therefore, urged the general public to discountenance any monetary solicitation from anybody purporting to be acting on behalf of governor with a promise of a job, adding that it is not in the character of Ayade to seek gratification for favours.
